Student Life

Student Success and Retention

Student Success is our number one priority. We are committed to ensuring our students have access to the support and resources they need to thrive academically.

Living on Campus

Tuck in to a hand-crafted burger or recharge with a cup of coffee and a bagel, all while being steps away from home. With seven residence halls and plenty of dining options, campus is the place to live, study and unwind.

Health & Wellness

Maintaining your physical and mental well being is key to having a successful college career. McNeese understands this, and offers a variety of services to help keep you healthy.
Work hard, play hard! McNeese is a place where you can hit the field as hard as you hit the books. Get your heart pumping with a workout, burn off steam in a quick pickup game, or enjoy cheering on your classmates in Cowboy Stadium.

Student Publications

Three student publications are officially recognized by the University:

The Log (Yearbook)

Student Services

With over 100 student organizations on campus, there's always something going on in between and after classes. From Greek life to multicultural clubs and events, there is a place for you to find your niche at McNeese.

Campus Safety

We strive to make McNeese a place where everyone feels safe. From detailed evacuation plans to maintaining campus security, our security experts are here to ensure our students, faculty and staff are taken care of.

Rodeo Team

The McNeese Rodeo team members enjoy a covered practice arena just a few miles from the university. Free stalls are available to team members, as well as practice equipment including a mighty broncy, drop barrel, spur boards, rope ‘n tie/calf sleds, heel-o-matic, and a goat tying dummy. We also have a gym on-site for team members.

Scholarships are available based on outstanding athletic performance in college rodeos, high school, and open rodeos.

Ashley Bass

I am a McNeese graduate with a bachelor's degree in Family and Consumer Science and a concentration in Child and Family Studies. As a student, I competed on the rodeo team and served on the SGA board. I earned my master’s degree in 2022 from the University of South Dakota in Educational Administration and Leadership with a concentration in Adult and Higher Ed. I have over 13 years of experience in adult education and 20 years of educational experience.

My favorite part of being a Freshman Advisor is helping students navigate their new life routine as a college freshman by offering support with in-person office visits or by email to help students meet their goals. I always remind students of my favorite BB King quote – “Education is one thing no one can ever take away from you.”  I believe that supporting students is vital to a student's success.

In my spare time, I raise registered American Brahman cattle, and I enjoy all the "country girl" things like hunting, fishing, growing a garden and cooking.
