Upward Bound General Information

Upward Bound is a program committed to serving high school students from target schools in the area.

This program provides fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance.
This program can accommodate up to 72 participants.
The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and graduate from postsecondary institutions.

The McNeese Upward Bound Program's mission is to:

Impact students’ lives through support and services that will aid them in becoming strong, productive citizens who will graduate from high school and obtain a two- or four-year college degree.

Federal Eligibility Requirements
- Potential first-generation college student (defined as a student whose parents have not earned a bachelor’s degree);
- A low-income individual;
- And/or an individual with a high risk for academic failure
Other Requirements
- Enrolled at LaGrange High School, Lake Charles College Prep., or Washington-Marion High School
- Must have a 2.5 grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale
- Committed to full participation in the program by adhering to policies and procedures
- Planning to attend college upon high school graduation

Participants

Rising 9^th grade students (completing 8^th grade), who will enroll in one of the target schools, as well as current students in grades 10 through 12 enrolled in target schools, may apply for the year-round program. The program provides opportunities for participants to succeed in their pre-college performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits. Upward Bound is year-round program.
